  • One of the goals of the Dallas ISD Internship Program is to prepare and provide high school students with hands-on, work-based learning experiences by helping them to develop employability skills in preparation for high-wage, in-demand careers. We are committed to providing career-ready high school students with the opportunity to participate and apply the knowledge and skills learned in a classroom setting through internships.

    Between their junior and senior years, Dallas ISD students are strongly encouraged to participate in a paid internship program in order to gain valuable work experience. To be considered for internship opportunities, students must complete this application and participate in all required internship preparation training sessions.

    Eligibility

    • Current junior (senior in 2024-2025)
    • At least 16 years of age by the beginning of the internship experience
    • Must have authorization to work in the United States
      (non-profit opportunities may be available for those without a work-permit) View I-9 form below to see list of acceptable documentation.

    • Must have completed the "Internship Ready" modules in the career readiness portal, via Oppti or a teacher-led career readiness program. 
    • Must have participated in a resume review and mock interview.

  • INTERNSHIP PROGRAM STUDENT AGREEMENT 

  • Successful participation in the Dallas ISD Internship program requires the ability to successfully complete the following core training:

    Career Readiness Modules: The first round of training and preparation with completing workplace readiness modules online through the Oppti program or teacher-led which includes the following units: 

    • Course 1: Digital Workplace Skills
    • Course 2: Workplace Finance and Onboarding
    • Course 3: Professional Networking
    • Course 4: Interview Skills
    • Course 5: Resume & Cover Letter
    • Course 6: Internship Ready

    This self-paced program is facilitated by an assigned teacher. Students will have access to the Oppti system in October and must complete all modules by the designated due date in February.

    Career Workshops: There will be several career workshop opportunities available to students throughout the school year. A program teacher will make sure students participate in various career-related events that include:

    • Mock Interviews
    • Resume writing workshop

    Orientation Training: This two-day training for student interns includes workshops on internship protocol and a student panel of former students who share stories of their past internship experiences. The orientation training is scheduled in the month of June, usually a week before the student intern begins the internship.

  • EXPECTATIONS

    As a participant in this program, students are representing Dallas ISD, their campus, teacher, and respective households. Students should make every effort to put their best foot forward by following these expectations: 

    • Student interns understand that they may be removed from the internship if they do not complete the core training (Oppti and Career Workshops) 
    • Student interns understand that in order to participate in the Internship Expo they must complete all the core training and complete the internship program application. The Internship Expo has limited capacity and will priority will be given to students who successfully complete the core training first. 
    • Student interns may be removed from the internship if they do not follow the guidelines of the internship program.
    • Student interns are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that compliments the workplace expectations and policies and maintains high standards of professionalism.
    • Students will follow the workplace dress code.
    • Students will maintain regularly scheduled communication with their Dallas ISD Internship Coordinator.

    I have read the following requirements and I understand that failure to meet these expectations may result in removal from the Internship Program.

  • INTERNSHIP PROGRAM PARENT/GUARDIAN AGREEMENT

  • A paid internship program is of great value for your child, the student intern, and is designed to help students explore their career interests and develop employability skills. For the internship program to be a successful experience for both you and your student, parents should be committed to supporting their students throughout the duration of the program.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Attend one of the Parent/Guardian Internship Overview Session. Receive key details and information about applying to the Dallas ISD Internship Program, benefits of participation in an internship, expectations, and support resources.   
    • Communicate with Dallas ISD Teacher, Internship Coordinator, and Industry Partnership Coordinators regarding all questions and concerns as it pertains to the internship program. 
    • Encourage your student intern to carry out the responsibilities of the internship with fidelity to include, but not limited to, classroom experiences and worksite duties as assigned by the Employer-Partner.                             
    • Provide support needed for the student intern to fully engage in the internship program.                                                                               
    • Grant permission for students to participate in the Dallas ISD Internship Program. 
    • Complete and submit all necessary forms and signatures required by due dates. 
    • Support and verify students’ regular attendance at the worksite.                   
    • Arrange student transportation to and from the worksite.
  • EXPECTATIONS

    • Serve as the initial point of contact for the student intern.
    • Model behaviors associated with how to interact with adults in a professional work setting. 
    • Report any concerns regarding the internship to the Internship Coordinator or Internship Supervisor.
    • The parent will hold their child accountable for on-time attendance, professionalism, and following all safety guidelines and workplace rules.

  • INTERNSHIP PROGRAM CONFIDENTIALITY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM

  • I understand that I may have access to confidential information about the business and financial interests of my Employer-Partner. I understand that Confidential Information is protected in every form, such as written records and correspondence, oral communications, and computer programs and applications.

    I agree to comply with all existing and future Employer-Partner policies and procedures to protect the confidentiality of Confidential Information. I agree not to use, copy, make notes regarding, remove, release, or disclose Confidential Information, unless it is permitted by the Employer-Partner policy.

    I agree not to share or release any authentication code or device, password, key card, or identification badge to any other person, and I agree not to use or release anyone else’s authentication code or device, password, key card, or identification badge. I agree not to allow any other person to have access to the Employer-Partner’s information systems under my authentication code or device, password, key card, or identification badge.

    I agree to notify the appropriate administrator immediately if I become aware that another person has access to my authentication code or device, password, key card, or identification badge, or otherwise has unauthorized access to the Employer-Partner’s information system or records.

  • DALLAS ISD ONLINE INTERACTION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM

  • Protocols for Video Conferencing

    Students:

    1. Will not share their session links or passwords with others.
    2. Will only participate in a virtual session they have been invited to by a staff member. 
    3. Should turn on the camera and mute their microphones upon entering the virtual session.
    4. Will not add unnecessary personal information in their profile such as location, phone number, and birth date.
    5. Will not share screen unless requested by a staff member.
    6. Will not engage inappropriate behavior online and will refrain from posting revealing, suggestive, or offensive images and comments. Students who disrupt and/or intrude will receive appropriate consequences in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
    7. Will not record, audio record, photograph, live stream, or transmit any part of a virtual session, including posting on any social media platform.

    I acknowledge it is my responsibility to read the Dallas ISD Online Interaction Guidelines and abide by the standards, policies, and procedures defined or referenced in this document. The information in this document is subject to change. I understand that changes in District policies may supersede, modify, or render obsolete the information summarized in this document. As the District provides updated policy information, I accept responsibility for reading and abiding by the changes.

    Consent and Release of Liability

    I give the Dallas Independent School District and its employees, agents, representatives, or employees of legitimate news organizations my full permission to photograph, videotape, copyright, broadcast, reproduce, telecast or cablecast, use on the internet or intranet, publish, or otherwise use my child's works or my child's photo or likeness for educational, broadcast or news purposes. This is with the understanding that neither the Dallas Independent School District nor its representatives will reproduce said photograph or likeness for any commercial value or receive monetary gain for use of any reproduction/broadcast of said photograph or likeness.

    I am fully aware that I will not receive monetary compensation for my or my child's participation.

    It is understood that Dallas Independent School District, its agents, representatives, or legitimate news organizations may use this material with or without my name or my child's name at its discretion. I further release and relieve the Dallas Independent School District, its Board of Trustees, agents, employees, or other representatives from any liabilities, known or unknown, arising out of the use of this material.

    I certify that I have read the Consent and Release of Liability statement and fully understand its terms and conditions. I understand that the opportunity to participate is given by the Dallas Independent School District and I have the full legal capacity to sign this Consent and Release it for myself and/or my child.
